Humility

 What defines the word humility?

Humility is modeling a sense of modesty for one’s accomplishments, wealth, status, or other qualities they may have. To exercise humility one must lose all arragency and commend others around them for accomplishments well deserved. Those who are humble are willing to receive feedback from others and realize mistakes as opportunities to grow rather than unwanted criticism. “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less” (CS Lewis).

Taking Steps to Achieve Humility

  1. Spend time listening and connecting with others. Acknowledge those around you and consider opinions without becoming defensive
  2. Practice mindfulness and focus on the present. Do not let your pride get the best of you
  3. Be grateful for what you have. Feel blessed with your life, but continue to grow
  4. Ask for help if you need it. No one is above asking for the help they need
  5. Seek feedback from others on a regular basis, keep yourself down to earth
  6. Review your actions against the language of pride

Learning to exercise humility benefits your mental and physical well being. Those who are humble handle stress more effectively and are able to make deeper connections with those around them. Achieving humility will require one to quiet themselves down and dig deep, but the benefits they will reap make efforts worthwhile.
